everyone falls for it for like 5-10 posts then it's right back to talking about Israel

Asher (and others): No one is going to sanction Israel because of the fact that it was in international waters. The ****storm brewing around would be exactly the same, which means that you need to get your head together and move on from this fixation on ZOMFG IT WAS INTERNATIONAL WATERS BAWWW. It is not a relevant point. Diplomatically, nobody cares. If they're angry at Israel and claim this is why, it's a fig leaf over why they really care.
Innocent until proven guilty, have you heard of that principle?
This doesn't even make sense. What the ****ing hell? We're talking about the soldiers defending themselves AT THAT TIME, not a court case. I'm sorry but are you so delusional you think we are supposed to hold trials in the middle of a stick-up instead of just shooting? There's this legal principle called "immediate danger" that you really should familiarize yourself with.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

I'm not surprised you think Innocent Until Proven Guilty makes no sense. You took issue with people assuming innocence of the dead. Pretty funny
it's too painful to type long posts on the iPhone and I'm at the airport. So you get lucky here."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Yeah, sorry, the UN can't actually do a thing about it. Whether Israel has any material consequences is entirely in the US government's hands. None of the major powers are going to take any serious action against such a strong ally of the USA. Hate to break it to you but Canada isn't exactly in a position to challenge us. The US also has a veto on the Security Council and freely exercises it when it comes to anti-Israel resolutions. Public opinion in America is extremely anti-UN and extremely pro-Israel and this is not particularly likely to change what with the UN being full of people who hate us and Israel being both a strategic ally and an enemy-of-my-enemy with fairly common values (in the opinion of most Americans, at the very least).Originally posted by Prince Asher View PostThe US congress has no bearing on the situation. The incidents occurred well beyond US borders and jurisdiction. The only people who matter here are the UN and The Hague.
Sure in theory you can fawn over your international organizations like the UN and International Court of Law but when you actually get down to it, they don't matter. When it comes to Israel, Congress will get what Congress wants, and it seems pretty clear that Congress wants to support Israel.
However this is completely putting aside the moral issue. Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle have said that they believe Israel has a right to defend itself, and while the raid may have been poorly executed, Israel was perfectly justified in doing so, the way to help the Palestinians is eliminating Hamas, and that we should support Israel. I personally agree. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

I don't think you understand how the world works if you think the US has any role here at all.

Why don't you just hold up a sign calling me a "moran" and get it overwith. Complete the picture.

It's not about right and wrong. It's about your juvenile naive arrogant patriotic attitude. It's why the USA has so many enemies. It's why you are always at warOriginally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostLol asher this isn't even about right or wrong, or whether this is the way things should be.
you guys have a lot to learn from Canada."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Check this out:
It summarizes polls on Israeli attitudes towards the US.
I find this one very interesting...
Do you think that US President Barack Obama's administration is more pro-Israel or more pro-Palestinian?
March 2010:
More pro-Israel: 9%
More pro-Palestinian: 48%
Neutral: 30%
No opinion: 13%
Are you ****ing serious?! Half of polled Israelis believe the US is pro-Palestinian! Less than 10% believe the US is pro-Israel

This one is also good:
What is the the main reason why the US will continue to maintain close ties with Israel in the future?
April 2009:
Israel's vital role as a strategic partner of the US: 49%
The political role of American Jewry: 26%
Democratic tradition and shared values: 15%
At least a quarter of Israelis are honest."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

How is that ironic? That's not ironic at all. It is not a situation in which "there is an incongruity or discordance that goes strikingly beyond the most simple and evident meaning of words or actions."Originally posted by Kuciwalker View PostIt's ironic that Asher is calling people juvenile and naive..."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
