Actually, I am pretty sure you can't. He is one of the few CEO types who are actually worth their salary.

Yeah. He wants to be absolute gate keeper who decides what people with Apple hardware can or cannot buy using those devices. That makes Apple money but I'd be pissed if I was a customer. Who wants to be forced to only buy stuff from just one store, the store Apple owns? Still, Apple has tons of fanboys who will do anything Steve Jobs tells them to do so I guess he doesn't have to care about competition.
iPhones will be a profitable niche market, just like Macs are. Blown opportunity for market domination. Steve Jobs just doesn't get it.
Before someone brings up iPods again, they're down like 18% in sales again this year.
