Picked up 3 pounds of American grown strawberries for $5 today.
Cheap illegal labour.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

3lbs of strawberries for $5?! Where do you get deals like that? I've never seen prices that low in America.

Anybody who thinks this is a possible equilibrium is retarded.
I agree that if there is market competition, and I believe there is, then the equilibrium will be found in lower prices and lower profits for companies. I was talking about what DD's article was saying but I agree that current situation is not going to be where the market finds its equilibrium.

I couldn't agree more, eventually the law will be enforced, wages will rise and new methods of production will be invested in that drive up yields and prices down.
Until then however, the strawberry producers are probably protected against imports like the grape growers.
