  • Britain - They all want to emigrate.

Almost three-quarters of Britons have considered leaving the UK this year, with most of them wishing for a life in Australia, a new study has found.

The main reasons given for wanting to start a new life abroad included the poor state of the economy (31 per cent) and a lack of job prospects (23 per cent).

Around one in 10 (12 per cent) said a change in the pace of life was the main attraction.

The survey, carried out on behalf of foreign exchange brokers Currency UK and released on Sunday, found Australia was the favoured destination for would-be expats.

A third of those questioned (33 per cent) said they had considered moving Down Under with a quarter (26 per cent) saying Canada was their dream destination.
    And most to Australia.

i'm a brit who is emigrating in 5 days, although to brasil rather than to oz. i'm fed up with the lack of opportunities for the young, the crap weather, the social expectations (get a career, a wife and family, buy a house, spend the next 30 years paying for it all, then realise what a rip off it all is and by then you're too old to do anything else...spend some years wondering what might have been, before eventually selling everything you've worked for all your life to pay for 'care' in a crappy retirement home, until you die quietly).

that's not to say that i don't love my country of birth, but like many brits it seems, i don't feel there's a real future for me here.

Which part of Brazil (I see you have begun to write Brasil correctly)?

I have relatives in Southern Brazil, it is by far the most developed part of the country.

Rio is too dangerous for my liking, and the contrast in that issue might be too big for you coming from a first world country. The south is safer, more developed and has more of a european feel. In some ways similar to Uruguay and Argentina.

But then with over 12 million inhabitants, you should be able to get a good job in Rio

a buddy of mine lived in rio for a few years (a welsh guy - quite similar to me in outlook, leads a fairly 'alternative' life), he said that it is quite dangerous there but that it gets a bad rap. then again, he did live in the cidade de deus (where the famous film is based) for a while, so he has a fairly relaxed attitude to danger!

And do you think any of that will be different in Brazil or do you just prefer to do the same while cavort with tanned girls and even fewer job opportunities?

You might as well as move to Cape Town because you'll be under siege from crime in both. I wouldn't sign the citizenship papers just yet because you will likely find life in a 3rd world country isn't as good as you think it will be. Take it from someone who has spent a good deal of time in the 3rd world. They're great places to visit when you have western money but living there is a whole other thing.

Brits have always wanted to emigrate, it's why they once had a worldwide empire. They were always looking for a better place than their ****ty rainy island that they had to share with the welsh.
