  • How Do I Fold This Piece Of Paper To Fit In This Envelope?

I need to mail a very important document and I have been given a BUSINESS REPLY MAIL NO POSTAGE NECESSARY IF MAILED WI THIN THE UNITED STATES ENVELOPE to mail it with, presumably free of charge. The document in my hand is pink colored and is the size of a normal computer paper print out. It is apparent that there needs to be at least one fold, possibly more, but I do not want to appear to be an idiot to the woman who opens this letter and discovers 20 creases.

For reference, this is an approximation of the envelope I am holding:

I cannot provide an image of a piece of paper because I think everyone here is at least smart enough to imagine that, there really are NO TRICKS HERE: just pretend it is a piece of paper that you are printing out in a normal printer, please. It is like this http://killpoke.files.wordpress.com/.../pink-slip.jpg.

Please instruct me where to make the folds and if so, how many to make and whether there is a standard procedure no one has told me about. To add insult to injury this piece of PAPER IS LETTER-SIZED so it should be built for this right?

PS It would be insulting for me to USE MY OWN BIGGER ENVELOPE, I do not want to draw attention to myself, the ****ing thing is pink enough as it is.

We need to know your monitor size and screen resolution so we can tell how big that envelope is.

Cool, same size as mine. That makes this easier.

Fold lengthways 1/3 of the way along the short edge of the paper.

Then fold width ways twice, making each fold a third of the way in from the end.

          Mine isn't 22 inches. It's closer to 8.

Not sure how that will help.

                  Excellent thank you

Is there a limit to the amount of pieces of paper you can fit into an evel ope?

Strangely enough I am using one right now.

It never occurred to me to use it as a size reference.

I'll go take a pic so you can see.

Do you know what this limit is? I have succeeded in getting 2 in so far.

Make A= width of envelope, B= height of envelope, X= width of paper, Y= height of paper.

                            Find lowest possible positive integers l,m and n,o so that X/l < A, Y/m < B, X/n < B, Y/o < A

compare l+m and n+o, and pick the lowest of the two. If equal, prefer powers of two, even numbers, odd numbers in that order. Of the chosen pair, the first number (l or n) is the amount of folds over the paper's width, and the second (m or o) the amount of folds over its height.
