  • Happy May Day!

Since the Commies on this board are slacking, I guess it's up to one of us Heathens to start a May Day thread.

Happy Walpurgisnacht to one and all!

I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title!- Al. B. Sure

Walpurgisnacht is a big deal here if you're in middle or high school and can't wait to get drunk and fall asleep in the park.

Not much of a big deal for most folks over here, but there are still some of us who like to keep the old ways alive.

                  Traditional May Day quotes:

RIMMER: Mayday! Mayday! (To LISTER) I wonder why it's "Mayday?"

                  LISTER: Eh?

Rimmer: The distress call. Why d'you say "Mayday"? It's only a bank holiday. Why not "Shrove Tuesday" or "Ascension Sunday"? Ascension Sunday! Ascension Sunday! The fifteenth Wednesday after Pentecost! The fifteenth Wednesday after Pentecost!

LISTER: It's French, you doink. It's m'aidez. Help me. Muh-aid-ay

May Day should properly be a pointless festival of public nudity, like it was at my college.

I live in Indiana. Public nudity here should be a felony.

The usual mayday here starts with union demos before noon, changes to neonazi/lefty demo and counterdemo later and ends with some lefties vs police streetbattles at night. It's a stupid ritual every year, last year very violent, this year police was prepared well and so it overall went better.

The Nazi/anti-Nazi May Day demo has become a tradition here too. I know both the radical right and left are looking to Germany so I'm this close to blaming you guys!
