underrated black actors

michael duncan - you know the guy that owned tom hanks in the green mile. and just like steve buscemi he got out of armageddon whit his diginty intact. thats and accomplishsment.

ving rhames - his to duncan what stellan skarsgård is to liam neeson, role stealer. still the guy is more then just big and black, just check con air and mission impossible where he owns some of your times biggest action stars such as tom cruise and nic cages.

don cheadle - unlike the others on my list cheadle is usually regarded as a awsome actor. but i just feel he doesnt get enuff good roles for his talent.

pam grier - token female really... she is awsome in jackie brown tho. i was drawing a blank on black actresses not known for there looks.

forest whitaker - great actor no doubt, but a bit boring. i was reluctant of adding him as i think he got the rep he deserve.

iam sure i missed a couple. what actor/actress do you think is most held back from his/her ethnicity

I always thought Morgan Freeman had some talent, he just often ended up with scripts where he couldn't show off his talent. I remember watching an interview he did where he said it was very hard to find scripts for a black leading man.

That's because "Armageddon" was the first movie anyone saw him in. At that point, there was nowhere for him to go but up, as he was one of the best parts of the movie.

Ok, comparing Ving Rhames to those two brilliant actors is where you fail here. Rhames was good in "Don King: Coming to America" on HBO, but Sylvester Stallone was good in "Rocky", because boxing is colorful. Rhames has played the same Marsellus Wallace character for 17 years. At least Michael Clarke Duncan has a fun side.

He's a Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner who is co-starring in one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer, Iron Man 2, who is set to play Miles Davis. What exactly are you talking about when you say "underrated"?

Actually, you didn't name any underrated actors. All of them are pretty much where they should be. Ving Rhames isn't an actor but is an action star.

And you can't be "underrated" if you have an Oscar nomination and have the pull to get a major studio to finance your own movie.
