  • [serious] Wartime songs

Post interesting old wartime (miltiary, people's, ect.) and anthems. I'm especially interested in 19th century and non-english songs.

    Starting with three Confederate ones

The Battle Hymn of the Republic

The next few one are songs of the Slovenian Communist resitance to Nazi occupation in WW2.

Last one a Slovenian Nazi collaborator anti-Communist song

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

And did those feet in ancient time
      Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
      On England's pleasant pastures seen?

      And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
      And was Jerusalem builded here
      Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
      Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
      Safer worlds through superior firepower

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

              One morning I woke up
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
              One morning I woke up
              And I found the invader

              Oh partisan, carry me away,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
              Oh partisan, carry me away,
              For I feel I'm dying

And if I die as a partisan
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
And if I die as a partisan
              You have to bury me

But bury me up in the mountain
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao,
But bury me up in the mountain
Under the shadow of a beautiful flower
And the people who will pass by
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao,
And the people who will pass by
Will say to me: "what a beautiful flower"

This is the flower of the partisan
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
This is the flower of the partisan
              Who died for freedom.

The WW1 posted so far where really interesting as have many of the other ones.

@Slowhand: Good one, I wanted to post that one but felt I already put enough Confederate ones in the OP.

                        Edit:

This one is from the Phillipines. It calls upon the people to rise up to eject the foreign invader from their land. Guess who the foreign invader was (originally)? It fell into obscurity for awhile, but rose again when Corinne Aquino adopted it as her rallying song when she ousted a dictator who was widely seen as a puppet of the same foreign invader.
