  • Help Me Fix My Computer

Hello again! Hopefully I can get a little help here since everyone and their mothers here seems to be very well versed in technology...

So I think I have a problem with Malware, but I'm honestly not sure. A few days ago, my computer started restarting at random times. It's gotten more and more frequent since then. I'd done MBAM scans and found nothing. I've done a-squared scans and found nothing. I've done Spybot scans and found nothing. I've done Avast! scans and found nothing.

I went to the Event Viewer (I'm using Windows XP Pro) and the errors I keep getting are from "Service Control Manager" event 7026. Sometimes there's an error from "disk" (error 7). I *think* that the restarts might have something to do with that? I thought it might have been that I was using too many system resources, but I haven't been doing anything differently since before the restarts started happening and if anything, I'm using up less memory/running less programs. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you have LavaSoft installed, and then removed?

Error Service Control Manager Event ID 7026

As always as soon as you post a question you normally find the answer
shortly thereafter. So it was in this case, as I spent too much time
Googling looking for someone else's answer and not enough time myself
      working on a solution.

Anyway here is the solution that so many that have uninstalled Lavasoft's
Ad-aware and ended up with this same problem.

      I ran Autoruns for Windows
      http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx and screened
it closely and found the culprit. It was listed under
      HKLM\System|CurrentControlSet\Services and I unticked "Lbd" Ad-aware
Mini-Filter Driver. Rebooted and the problem was gone.

However, to be sure I deleted all aspects of the Lavasoft Lbd Driver I ran
Regedit> HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and deleted the "Lbd" entry.
Now it is entirely gone and no longer appears in Autoruns.

Quick google and personal experience leads me to believe you are hitting out of memory exceptions, but I'm not 100% certain. Check to see how many services are running, and check the size of your page file. How much RAM and page file do you have?

If yes, what makes you think I'm a dl?

If you haven't mucked around with the software lately then it may be a hardware problem. Try Active Hard Disk Monitor, Memtest, and Prime95 to check for hard disk and memory problems and to stress-test your computer. IIRC you need to run Memtest from a boot disk, if you have an XP SP1 CD then you can build a Bart PE boot CD or alternatively check around on torrent sites for a pre-built Bart PE ISO.

I probably shouldn't ask what 'tubgirl' is?

You're not gonna trick me into doing it.

I'm tough enough to admit, I fear tubgirl.
