    The interview stated that the player is Canadian, won a full scholarship at an American College, his father played professional hockey, he won a Stanley Cup in or near New York just a few years prior to 2005 (when the book was published).

    Now there are 3 teams that we can say are in the area of New York, there are The Rangers, The Islanders and The Devils. The Devils won a Stanley Cup in 2002, making them the only one of those 3 teams that would fit the profile. There is only one player on the Devils championship roster to have attended a U.S. college, have a father that played pro hockey, as well as being Canadian. That player is defensive forward John Madden, who was a key player in the Devils Stanley Cup run, and a former Selke Trophy winner.
