  • "They're going to take our guns away!" Paging Dr. Freud...

Seriously, though, the 2nd Amendment is the worst part of the Bill of Rights. I don't think guns should be illegal for civilians, but the bit about militias in particular is just a bloody anachronism now.

    • Well it was written in the 18th century you know, and white people really did have a lot to fear from natives and blacks. Political thinking had not yet evolved to the extent that they might have considered that it was only just that they should be afraid.

      • Hey, no argument there. The "our guns might keep the government in check" argument could have actually worked back then too, back when muzzle-loading cannon were the pinnacle of land-based military technology and your average civilian could own everything else...it's just now that said argument is absurd.

          Excuse me?

How can this not be a crime?
I know, I'm not sure I understand that either.

I wonder how stupid your original post must have been to change it to that.

Reread the article; it explains how these gun-carrying protestors and the Tea Party members are connected with one another with the recent protests covered in that article.

Also, anyone is welcome to change the topic/discussion of Tea Party from the original topic of racist behavior to more general discussion or other discussions related to Tea Party.

Yes, because we all know that ordinary citizens wielding small arms and improvised explosive devices can't possibly stand up to the U.S. military.

                        'Infiltrator' signs declare, 'I'm a bigot, I'm a racist, I'm a teabagger'

As tea partiers flocked to hear former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin speak at a tea-party rally on the Boston Common, apparent crashers or agents provocateurs appeared at the event today carrying signs with racial slogans and messages attacking Palin and the tea-party movement.

The following are photos of purported crashers at the event posted on Flickr.com:

                          • Tea partiers in two camps: Palin vs. Paul

Tea party activists are divided roughly into two camps, according to a new POLITICO/TargetPoint poll: one that’s libertarian-minded and largely indifferent to hot-button values issues and another that’s culturally conservative and equally concerned about social and fiscal issues.

                            ...

The results, however, suggest a distinct fault line that runs through the tea party activist base, characterized by two wings led by the politicians who ranked highest when respondents were asked who “best exemplifies the goals of the tea party movement” — former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), a former GOP presidential candidate.

Palin, who topped the list with 15 percent, speaks for the 43 percent of those polled expressing the distinctly conservative view that government does too much, while also saying that it needs to promote traditional values.

Paul’s thinking is reflected by an almost identical 42 percent who said government does too much but should not try to promote any particular set of values — the hallmarks of libertarians. He came in second to Palin with 12 percent.

When asked to choose from a list of candidates for president in 2012, Palin and Paul also finished one-two — with Palin at 15 percent and Paul at 14 percent.

This ought to correct the nonsense peddled in the other TP thread that the TP is a "homogeneous" group. Paul and Palin couldn't be farther apart.
