Education and intelligence are two different things, as has been pointed out, so the NTY polls hardly shows that Tea Party members are smarter. As for their higher incomes, older white male workers tend to have higher incomes no matter what the circumstances, so a movment made up primarily of older white males should in fact have a greater number of higher income members to it.

What it does show is that the "tea party" is a movement of petty bourgoise white individuals uneasy with the pace of change in the country - the same kind of people who backed Perot back in 1992. The current system has benefited them, and they are scared about it changing,since that places their status in danger.

They've got most of the Republican politicians in the country actively courting them and there are now calls for Democratic politicians to do the same. They're already having and will continue to have an impact on a number of Congressional races in this election cycle and could become even more influential afterward, depending on the composition of the new Congress.

I don't know why you seem to be expecting peaceful protests to change anything outside of the normal political process.
