Public choice is about the application of economics to the study of politics. Austrian economics is about the difficulty of explaining economic performance by the actions of monetary and fiscal authorities. I'd say that the major intellectual foundations of the anti-socialist argument lie in their overlap, not properly to one or the other.

In other words, I'd say that one points out how hard central planning is, while the other points out how unsuited politicians are to engage in it.

Public choice offers alot more though in regards to voter ignorance in Philip Converses work on "belief systems"

Also comparative institutions. Here public choice offers to sterilize the political debate because rather then discuss private vs. public you do away with these loaded words and ask what is are the structural components of an efficient institution ? Recent work by Fremling Lott and mackenzie offer arguments as to how democracy performs vs markets in deploying information.

Also PCT re-frames the debate with regards to allowing individuals the freedom to bifurcate markets with tailored criticism like greed or profit seeking from public institutions. PCT illustrates how these same principles operate withing the political ecology and are often more deleterious adn difficult for consumers to insulate themselves from.

The parasite thing applied to monopolistic institutions or the altruism thing? both are my own thoughts on the political economy and human evolution and not developed or supported by any empirical evidence or any independent publications i know of.

Wasn't there a paper released a few years ago by econophyscists that somewhat conforms to the Austrian business cycle thesis? They were not directly trying to confirm ABCT but their results happened to be consistent with ABCT i believe.

US politics is just a hobby for me; I'm more of an expert in boring crap that no one in their right mind wants to discuss. I'm considering giving up on following politics, anyway. I read far too much online political **** and far too little non-fiction these days.
