For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

    • I'm saying that a basketball player who changes teams because one offers $40 million a year and the other only 30 is wasting his time with the hassle of moving his stuff. He can't and won't use either amount in full, except on things which have no purpose but to show that he has money to burn--he just has a mindset that more necessarily=better.

More does equal better. Why would any rational person sell their services for 25% less than the market is offering?

Regular economics? I don't remember learing that one.

      I'm not surprised.

Have you read that super bit in Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" where the Yankee spends like twenty minutes trying to explain "actual purchasing power" to people and failing? I'm feeling that here. If he won't ever spend it, it's worthless to him. It's not even worth whatever paperwork/what-have-you he has to go through to switch teams. Unless, of course, he has a charity and he wants more money to dump into it.

I'm a census clerk now, but whatever. Please explain a worthwhile use of $30 million.

How do you know he won't spend it, you dumb ****? Several people have told you that it's not that hard to find a way to spend millions of dollars, but you responded by saying that a person doesn't need those types of things. Well no ****, Sherlock, but what a person needs has **** all to do with what they want. A rational person wants more money because there are plenty of expensive things that they would want to buy if they had that kind of money. Are you really too ****ing stupid to grasp this?

Most of the things that people buy with more money aren't worth much more than what they already have.

                      • I don't think I ever said anything about need in this thread (if I did, it was poorly phrased); I said most of the things that require lots of money perform no function but show that you have lots of money. Which in turn makes them stupid things to want. "Ooh, you have an eighty-room mansion. Too bad you never spend any time in sixty of those rooms, because no single human being has any use for that much space."

Investing, MrFun? As in, you can use your piles of money to get more piles of money? I can trade my twenty thousand paper clips for twenty-two thousand paper clips. Only I don't have all that much paper...

True. I suppose science is an expensive pastime. Now, if only there were billionaires who hung out at the particle accelerator, I'd understand.

But sound investing is one of the ways that people can help spur economic recovery and in better times, economic growth.

Human wants are insatiable. You've also not given a cogent reason why a basketball player (or anyone else) should accept being paid less when he could recieve more compensation for his talents on the open market. Would you accept the Census paying you the same salary as your pizza job as you clearly don't need the money? Or is this pathetic and retarded moralizing just for other people?
