    The Last Starfighter

    The Karate Kid

Basically, anything with a goofy 1980's hero.

ps. The commando headline is amazing: "Somewhere, somehow, someone's going to pay". It sounds like random punishment/retribution.

It reminds me of a lot of US people's response to the anti Gulf War II argument that Iraq had nothing to do with Al Qaeda.

Princess Bride is not a dumb movie, nor is Groundhog Day. Princess Bride is a clever parody, and Groundhog Day is all about some weird philosophical ****. Groundhog Day is more philosophically interesting than the Matrix anyways.

Grandma's Boy is a dumb movie that I love.

Groundhog Day. Man keeps replaying the same day until he gets "THE" woman to fall in love with him not knowing that it's what will end the endless cycle but because he gets bored and runs out of other things to do including trying to kill himself. PRETTY DUMB. But how he gets there is entertaining. (anybody but Murray) and the movie probably would have sucked big time.

It's more thought provoking than a lot of movies. Certainly not a dumb movie in the mold of Speed or Paranormal Activity.

Uh, I think you kind of missed the point of Groundhog Day.

Please don't get me wrong. It's one of my favorite movies and it makes you think, but in terms of plot, it's pretty dumb.

Almost all good movies require a willing suspension of disbelief. But there's a level beyond, which is dumb territory. For me, Groundhog Day and Princess Bride aren't dumb in the same way that the Matrix is dumb. I mean, human beings as batteries for machines? WTF?

NB: Of course, I enjoyed all three movies.

Likewise, the Coen Brothers movies or something like, say, Pulp Fiction or Forrest Gump have outlandish plots, but I wouldn't consider them dumb movies.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Yeah, i guess it's personal opinion, I just wanted to make the point that even a dumb plot doesn't necessarily make a movie not good. Hell, my wife considers all science fiction or fantasy movies DUMB.

I see that there's a Clash of the Titans remake coming out soon. My wife is super-excited to see it; it's obviously a very ****ty remake of what my wife says was a very ****ty movie originally. The compound ****tiness should be dazzling.
