I agree sterilization is too drastic. Perhaps compulsory contraception for the duration of time spent on welfare plus 6 months?
Then what's stopping them from having more kids and going back on welfare later?

**** that. If you want welfare or food stamps, you don't get to breed. Ever again.

The OP argument is highscoolish. Sounds like someone is in 10th grade Debate Class and just read Atlas.
So you're saying that sterilizing welfare recipients would NOT reduce crime?

I bet most police officers would disagree. In fact, I have a family member and three friends from high school who are cops, and all of them agree with me on this one.

True, but what I've learned from my friends who are cops is that most people who get picked up on drug charges - whether pot or coke or heroin - usually have outstanding warrants for non drug related offenses, too.

I'm OK with legalizing pot, and in fact all drugs, as long as we do something to round up the outstanding warrants that the drug users have anyway. It'd be the same effect, or nearly the same, again from what I understand from multiple police officers.

Also aren't crime rates in the US falling despite the increase of the NAM population because of better crime fighting technology? Wouldn't it be politically easier to just keep the growing useless eater masses happy with the welfare state and inexchange they don't riot and kill the productive citizens deciding if their stock portfolio is big enough to finally have that underweight Autistic baby they've been dreaming about since their early 30's?

Poverty in Africa could be reduced by biological warfare.

Also we could end all crime in the world by killing everyone.

Difference being, I'm not advocating killing anyone. I'm reducing crime and poverty by eliminating the ability of a large segment of the poverty stricken and crime committing population to, well, contribute to crime and poverty. And it still isn't mandatory - they can turn down welfare and food stamps, if they are that adamant about having more children. Although those children should probably go into CPS custody immediately anyway, because clearly the family can't afford them and will provide them with a ****ty upbringing, probably involving drugs and crime.

Could we have democracy instead? I believe in the democratic peace theory. I refuse world peace without world democracy on humanitarian grounds.

Whoosh. I meant that the solution is worse than the problem. Gross invasion of privacy, and I doubt whether all that many people go through the humiliation of food stamps strictly by choice.

How is it an invasion of privacy, when we allow warrantless wiretaps? This is a totally voluntary procedure, that becomes mandatory only if one ELECTS to receive welfare payments or food stamps.

Also, how is preventing the ability of the lowest class of citizens - and those who most directly contribute to crime and poverty - to breed a solution worse than the problem?

Don't get me wrong, I'd RATHER just eliminate welfare and food stamps altogether. However, for those who are sensitive for the need of a social safety net for the nation's poor, I'm simply proposing a solution that will both provide a safety net for individuals, and a safety net for those of us paying for them.
