  • So I got a new TV.

I haven't actually owned a TV in years though when my girlfriend moved in she brought a large CRT TV which she's been on me to upgrade to a flatscreen. So after months of shopping around I finally bought a Sharp 42-inch LC-42SB45UT 1080p LCD HDTV from Dell of all places for $499. Spec wise this set seems to have everything I was looking for and it was being sold by Dell for hundreds less then even Walmart was selling it for so I jumped on the price but now I'm starting to have a few second thoughts. I mean, even though all the reviews are good, I've never actually seen what the picture looks like and I'm wondering why the heck it is so cheap.

Does anyone have any feedback on this model or on sharp 1080p sets in general? I basically jumped on it for the price and free shipping but now I'm wondering if I did the right thing.

I found the deal at this site: http://www.gotapex.com/deals/yesterday/

I imagine at this price it is a 120 htz display instead of a 240 but here's the write up.

HAHA! Dell has already raised the price by $50. The email they gave me as a receipt says $499 though so they must have raised the price between last night and this morning.

I'm a bit worried about the refresh rate and the 6ms response time which seems a bit high though the reviews say it is a solid TV especially for the price. Anyone have any advice?

        It's a 60Hz if it doesn't say 120 or 240.

For $499 it's a good deal, but it's not the best TV, no. The contrast ratio is relatively poor also (by latest-gen standards), but still fairly good compared to even TVs on the market a year or two ago.

            For that price, not bad.
If you were expecting a top end model, then yeah cancel and be prepared to spend more.
If you were looking for a decent set for cheep, keep it.

I guess I'll keep it. If I decide I'm not fully happy with it then I can always just buy a more expensive set later on especially at the rate prices keep coming down. At the very least this will make for a nice bedroom TV if nothing else.

Yeah 499 isn't that much and 42" isn't so big that it can't be used as a secondary set later on. Awhile back I bought a toshiba rear projection tv for cheap that I figured would last long enough for the prices to come down. I figure I got a few more years. It has a great picture but it's 55" so not likely to as usable as a second tv.

The speakers are undersized, but probably par for the course on these TVs.

Overall, it looks like a solid deal. Sharp TVs probably will lead the way down in price because they have a manufacturing advantage over the other TV makers. So I wouldn't consider the low price an indication of quality.

                    Flat-screen TVs come with speakers?

                    Holy ****. Who uses those?

Sharp has really changed their approach.

Hitachi and Samsung are very good.

I have a pretty good home audio system so I don't really intend to use those speakers anyway.

You are so hosed, that is not the model you were looking for. You need the 48" model.
