Considering that in 1978, Ronald Reagan wrote against a California Proposition which would have done this very thing. But Republicans don't talk about President Reagan highly, right?

While I don't think Reagan was a great or even good president, I thought we didn't know much about AIDS during his early years in office, even its means of transmission?

The book is not only about Reagan and his administration during the early AIDS epidemic. Randy Shilts denounced many other individuals and groups - including people within the gay community - in their willfulness to do nothing as the epidemic broke out.

On other side of coin, his book also includes heroes who showed compassion and intelligence during the crisis.

Actually, there's a fair amount of evidence that Obama didn't think too highly of his mother. I guess I can't blame him; I'd probably hate my mom too if she drug me around on some third-world hippy tour before dumping me with her parents, although I doubt I'd choose to fill the void in my life left by my crappy mother with a longing for an idealized version of my even crappier absent father.
