  • What is the state of mind of your soldiers ?

Mobby made this claim in another thread :

Neither of those deserve respect IMO.
When the Iraq and Afghanistan participitacion of danish forces started (actually, it goes back to the yoguslavian mess), there were a number of soldiers that decided to jump off and it was accepted - it made no sense to force people since it would reduce the overall capability - they were of course fired.

Today, there are something like double the number of volunteers to the needed number of soldiers. That is despite a relatively high number of casualities, a pretty solid education system and a good security net for unemployed.

This of course breaks both A and B in Mobby's claims for us, but what is the situation at your locale ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

However you're not taking into account an important caveat. That is the change from not being in any danger, to a distinct likelihood of death or injury...

My point was mainly about an army in peacetime, where there wasn't much danger of your average soldier seeing active service. A huge proportion of those soldiers aren't actually looking for a fight, just a steady paycheck...

The moment a war starts, they're stuck because they've signed up for a fixed term of up to three years and suddenly many of them are someplace they don't want to be.

In the UK, significant numbers stopped signing up for the next tour - the TA (Territorial Army - weekend warriors) numbers jumped off a cliff, because they could leave...

Now, after a stabilisation, you're getting a different breed of soldier - the actual thrillseekers that wouldn't normally be in the army because in peacetime it is boring as ****. Hence lots of people now wanting to join up again...

The Danish army probably has the added attraction because the country itself is so ****ing boring and it's a chance to escape its utter pointlessness.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

      But I did, they left.

True, but that is probably only a small portion.

In the UK, significant numbers stopped signing up for the next tour - the TA (Territorial Army - weekend warriors) numbers jumped off a cliff, because they could leave...
That I would call weeding out the unserious.

Strange to say this, but partly you are probably rigth - being a soldier is pretty boring, so yes, there are thrillsekers, but I also think that if they are only that, then they wont be accepted - they are too dangerous.

That coming from a Welsh is pretty hilarious

Therefore supporting my argument that they weren't in the army for a fight.

True, but that is probably only a small portion.
It was more than a small portion in the UK, the US army also had serious recruitment problems for a long time into the Iraq campaign. Anecdotal evidence at the beginning of active duty would seem to have supported my argument.

Your country is boring and flat. We've got mountains, castles, forests, decent beer...

That's the reason for the thread - a number of danish soldiers jumped off, but now we have more volounteers than needed even when thrillseekers are weeded out (it's actually a bit difficult to become a soldier here).

So again you're agreeing with me.
I said that but that doesn't mean that I like it

Only having mountains is probably why you are the butthole of england

Oh, you forgot that we have snaps and sild

MOBIUS is an idiot. That should have gone without saying. He sounds just like a Democrat, that wants conscription back.
            Naturally, he would avoid it.
As far as U.S. military, I've said it before. They don't think the job is done.
They're a little dismayed by the things SOME people say, but it doesn't deter them. Not the vast majority.
They realize it's takers like MOBIUS that are whining.

This is exactly what I was talking about Sloww. You may disagree with Mobius, but you are not contributing to the discussion with this kind of behavior.

                Screw you.
The question asked was about the state of mind of our soldiers.
You're the same kind of taker as MOBIUS, so include yourself.

This is exactly what I talked of earlier. You're burning need to follow people around and "correct" them. I don't care what you think. What does it take for you to comprehend?

Now, if Sloww, DaShi and Mobby could take their personal discussions to another thread, I would be glad, and then get back on the ****ing subject
