  • Might be moving to Montreal.

Waiting for the offer from Bombardier Aeronautics. I should receive it tomorrow or Monday. I kinda don't want to leave Ottawa - I have a nice place and good friends here - but from a work/$ standpoint it looks like it would be a good move.

So... what are the best areas to look for a pad? I'm thinking a condo. Any specific places i should avoid? (other than Montreal )
    What?

I was asked a few weeks ago if I was "open to the opportunity of living in Montreal". I replied a curt "No" and updated my resume.

Yes. It's painful enough without having to deal with Quebec in any way, shape, or form.

OK. I got the offer. It's pretty good and tempting. I might take it.

I take it that you're doing aerospace work rather than infrastructure work?

                  What is your background/degree?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

i'd live in the plateau if i could.

always liked it better than downtown.

somewhere not terribly far from the boutiques on rachel/st dennis. i can't remember the streets exactly. it's been a while since i've lived there.

Thanks for the info. I should know today whether my current employer is making me a counter offer. I'll see what happens then.

I always make sure to say "Sap" instead of "S.A.P.". If they are too lazy to put the dots in there I'm to lazy to pronounce it right.

In all my years managing I only countered once. And that was for my #1 critical employee. I had many reasons.

                              1. I don't like being blackmailed. And no matter how you phrase it, it's going to seem like it. I have no problem and still have respect for employees that leave to take better offers.
                              2. If they do it once and succeed you can bet they'll do it again.
                              3. Two times I didn't, I later found that the employee was bluffing
                              4. As much as I hate to say it, everyone is expendable. And if the person is out there looking, it's usually just a matter of time. (if the offer just popped out of the air, it's different, but 9 out of 10 times nothing pops unless someone blows.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
RIP Tony Bogey & Baron O
