  • Holy ****. Holy ****. Holy ****!

My wife was due 2/19. Was, because it isn't going down like that anymore.

At some point recently (dunno when, or why) her water broke. Not necessary to explain the details, but it wasn't clear at first that's what happened. But it was confirmed yesterday morning, and they admitted her right away.

Friday of this week would be the final day of the 34th week (full term is 40weeks, though they consider anything between 38 and 42 normal). They're doing a test to see how developed the baby's lungs are, as well as doing a round of steroids to help ensure they're good to go. Once they gain a comfort level on that issue, they're gonna do a C-section. Could be this afternoon, could be tomorrow. Maybe Friday. Unlikely longer than that. Then it's NICU for a few weeks. My daughter will be born a tad earlier than we'd expected.

Despite the title I chose, I'm no longer all that freaked out. 34 weeks isn't all that bad nowadays, and Hartford Hospital is good at what they do.

    Wish us luck.

I was a "preemie" over 40 years ago and I turned out to be just as ****ed up as the rest of people. Things will work out.

        Congrats Arrian.

I'm sure things will go fine.

Not what you would want, but yes the early care is quite good these days.

            Good luck.

              Yeah, suboptimal but not horrible.

              Thanks.

Jace was 36 weeks, and apart from all the problems that he's having (that aren't associate with the preemieness) he was fine, surprisingly no jaundice.

Congrats to you and the wife!

                  Good luck, man!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The vast majority of 33-34 week infants do just fine. I wouldn't worry. Some full 34 weekers don't even have to go to NICU, if you're lucky.

                      Bon chance, mon ami.
