In fact, why don't you visit them both on a working holiday seeing as you've no plans right now...?
Good point. I'll look at that tomorrow.

      Hear, hear Cort.

When I boycotted flying* for a couple of years, I made a conscious effort to explore the UK, including a couple of extremely circuitous road trips to Edinburgh for the fringe festival.

      * I stopped this autumn when it became apparent that Copenhagen was going to be a colossal waste of time.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

I look forward to being gainfully employed and buying a caravan to explore the country in, but that's a few years down the line...

Do it. Spent 3 years in New Zealand one time, and then about a year in OZ some years later. Was at a loose end both times...

Besides, you can visit BC on the way over.

What is worth seeing in Calgary/Edmonton? And why, when thinking of seeing the world, do those two cities pop in your head?

As opposed to Rockville or Camp Springs? Although, I did once know a fetching wench in Camp Springs.

Calgary's alright, so long as you're not there in the summer, or the winter.

I think he was thinking in and around.

The Canadian Rockies are pretty spectacular. The train ride Vancouver-Edmonton is a tourist attraction itself. From Edmonton it's a short drive to Jasper National Park (the better of the two). From Calgary the mountains are out the back door, but you have to make do with Banff (more touristy and the lesser of the two parks) although Lake Louise is closer.

There's some other interesting things to do and see, even a few in winter.

Some of the most spectacular scenery in the world? Perhaps the most intelligent, sexiest ***** in the whole world also.

As for Banff vs Jasper, there's a reason Banff is wildly more popular than Jasper.

It's closer to a major city.

That also has made it more of a tourist trap.

Jasper is closer to being natural, and is closer to areas where very few people go.
