  • Ze proper name of ze silly American sport

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

If you want to know why this "football" player is crying, you'd have to read his livejournal.

Football was the original name for any sport played on foot, as opposed to the aristocratic sports like polo, fox-hunting and peasant-trampling which were played on horseback. Both can therefore be reasonably called football. I'm not sure what's in the water in Slovenia, if hens there lay eggs with two sharply pointed ends.

My own experience with soccer is that it's a boring sport heavily biased towards the defense; the few times I played it, untrained, asthmatic ol' Elok could block attackers who'd plainly spent like half their lives playing soccer, going to soccer camp, etc., four times out of five. The field's so huge you can see the ball coming with at least five seconds to spare, move to intercept, and handily kick it away. If they try that sissy-jig thing where they tuck the ball behind their legs, you can just kick at it anyway and hit their shins, and they can hardly blame you for lacking their incredible sissy-jig skills. They can't outrun you while maintaining control of the ball, and if they pass it to somebody else that somebody's defender will be on him like a leech. They need impeccable training and practice together (or astonishing luck) to actually get a shot at the goal, and even if they do there's a goalie to block and then kick the ball way the hell out there again. Whee, soccer!

This can only prove that Elok is a) American, b) Australian, or c) Welsh.

How awful were your opponents? Let alone the referee, not to notice that just kicking someone regardless of where the ball may be is not technically how the game should be played. Well, unless you grew up in Leeds in the '70s.

Kicking at the opponent's shins is how Americans teach humility to fancy pants soccer players. I'm with Elok on this one.
