Is just that the U.S. eclipsed or devoured any potential Canadian artists who could have put their nation on the musical map?
I mean, almost every developed nation has a distinct musical tradition that is known around the world. But not Canada... it's all just Anne Murray, Celine Dion, and other crap that's indistinguishable from the rest of the drek on the easy listening stations. It seems like they've always just copied what we do instead of having their own thing.
America: Gershwin, Copland, Ives, Bernstein... Jazz, Blues, Swing, Rock 'n' Roll...
Canada: Paul Anka, a.k.a. Canada's less-talented version of Tom Jones.
