People who post personal threads do search for rationalizations for things they already believe. They basically recruiting an army of straw men which they can "defeat" and feel better about themselves. They ignore, naturally, the tougher arguments that might shake their sense of self worth (since they made a bad decision).


Do you ever read the community blog less wrong? (I heartily recommend it to all, some of its content is pretty good) They being pretty anti-religious consider certain theological debates, like those medieval ones about "atheism" to fall into this category.
