Sorry I should have been more clear.

First, actively harmful=actively harmful to the US. Second, I've read a lot of evidence suggesting that a lot of social welfare programs actually make problems worse, like subsidies for single mothers and farm subsidies. And FICA certainly doesn't help the economy.

Taxes generally don't help the economy, so why pick on social security and medicare because of FICA while not also classifying a large defense budget as harmful?

I don't even know where you're coming from when you say subsidies for single mothers are bad, but to discredit social security, medicare, medicaid you need to do more than assert that transfers of wealth are sometimes harmful.

I'd agree that budget cuts are needed, but I wouldn't agree to only cutting entitlements.

The problem with entitlements isn't the additions to universal health care, which will mostly effect young workers. Rather it is the old who have outrageous medical bills and retire too early.
