  • Christmas Cards and Political Correctness

I bought some Christmas cards last weekend and one of them is a boxed set. I plan to send them out to family, friends, and co-workers soon after Thanksgiving.

The boxed set I bought are religious-themed Christmas cards and since I will have some left over after I send cards out to family and friends, I'm thinking about giving one to some of my co-workers.

But since I'm an employee of state of Illinois, would I be in violation of any work regulations regarding religion and expression of religious belief in the workplace? We know how crazy PC can be at times.

Why are you asking strangers on the internet if something would be a violation of your own workplace's policies? Don't you have a supervisor?

I don't see a problem. You're a private citizen offering Christmas greetings to co-workers at your own expense. It may be stupid, but I'm pretty sure it's both legal and permissible.

However, I left corporate world almost 5 years ago, so I could easily be wrong.

I thought this was a good way to start sharing horror stories about political correctness run amok at work places.

Our director is out, but I plan to ask the secretary as I leave work today.

No problem, just be sure that the cards have Buddha in santa clothes for the buddists, Mohammad ditto for the muslims etc.

Edit: uhmn, maybe you should drop that for the muslims - just choose some nice palms with whatever stuff you usually put on a christmas tree
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I hate it when Christians give me religious themed Christmas cards.

If there's no Santa, fireplace, or cabin...don't bother

Can I have your mailing address so I can mail you a religious-themed Christmas card?

And for PETA freaks, what do I put in place of reindeer? I'm sure PETA freaks would think it's cruelty to use images of reindeer shackled to a heavy sleigh.

The only reason to buy a card for somebody (as opposed to writing something on a blank card) is so that you'll have an out if they take offense to the card. "'Merry Christmas you ****ing douchebag!'" "I'm offended by this card you gave me." "Hey don't look at me, I just bought the thing! Save your anger for the guy who wrote it!"

If you mean it just says "Chistmas" instead of "Holiday's" you are fine. If someone is stupid enough to get pissed off over that then you probably want to piss them off anyway.
