Founded by Polish immigrants living in New York. How long is the residency requirement before that quote reads "Founded by Americans"?

When the nationality of the name is what is under discussion, never.

"I'm going to that new restaurant started by Irishmen. O'Malley's."
"The owners are 4th generation immigrants. They're not 'Irish.' "
      "Wrap around my ass."

I think you mean "ethnicity" not "nationality".

In which case Americans of Polish descent would be an accurate description (or of Irish descent as in your example). Otherwise you are in the category of the marathon runner mentioned earlier.

I was pointing out that the founders were of Polish origin, therefore the ice cream was neither German by nationality of the company nor ethnic heritage of the founders.

I know. It was the phrasing (see my response to Loin).

I'm not accusing you of bad intent. You're not that type of poster.

Yah, I just don't see what about my phrasing would lead to your comment, since I said "Nothing to do with Germans whatsoever, actually."
