There's nothing dumb about protecting vulnerable minority groups through federal law.

This legislation doesn't do that, unfortunately. It's just lip service.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

        Murder is murder.

I'll second the need for line-item veto.

Son, son! You aren't making any sense there. Gather you wits about you.

Gays are now added to the Federal Hate Crimes Act. This act has teeth. How can you say, I mean, how can you say that this addition is just lip service. It ain't got nothin' to do with lips, son. It's all about teeth! You know, takin' a bite outta hate crimes! So don't go shootin' off your mouth until your brain is loaded. That's the way to do it, son!

Its just a smoke screen to mask Obamas continued evasion of dealing with the "dont ask dont tell" policy.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

So, you think he can revoke legislation at will??

AFAIK all it requires is an executive order to begin the process, so yes he can.

Attaching this to a defense bill is pure intellectual dishonesty. Rather than raise the issue to debate it on its' merits - which, IMO, and in the opinion of probably the majority in the Senate, don't exist - they simply tacked it onto a defense bill, which would have been politically tough to vote against.

Hate crimes are bull****. Punish the crime, not the motivation. Murdering a gay person should hold the same penalty as murdering a straight person - the death penalty.

The Senate voted 68 to 29 today to approve the plan as part of a defense policy measure.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

So, eh, the bill says, that "we'll buy X number of new fighter planes next year, and killing gays is now a hate crime"?
