  • You wondered if charity would not be the better option.

I suggest you were on the right track.

    • Keep in mind that KH is also advocating the free trade of kidneys as a way to address the economic needs of whoever wants to sell them.

      • I don't think it's obvious that kidneys shouldn't be freely traded.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Yes, why not? Because it makes you feel good to force others into your idea of shrewd dealing?

You're nothing but a paternalistic *****. The worst part is that you're also stupid.

          • 10000 to some guy in India will let him:

            start a small business
pay for his child's medical care
            pay for his child's education
            etc etc etc

Which of these, precisely, do you object to?

I think it's pretty obvious that for many people in the 3rd world selling a kidney is a no-brainer. Not everybody in this world gets to live the comfortable lie that economics is about luxury, not life and death.

            • Which is why a few bankers swinging from the lampposts would have had a lot of positive effects, by the way.

Does a guy in India actually get $10,000 for his kidney? I feel like the figure would be closer to a few hundred dollars. Regardless, I agree with NYE. Organ transplants should not be done based on who has the most money. I find the idea of international trade in organs abhorrent.

We already oppress those in developing countries. You propose we should extend this dominance further, such that we are literally buying the bodies of people from developing countries, piece by piece?

There is no way in the hell they would have gotten the right bankers. I'm not sure anybody knows who those are.

I find the idea that your squeamishness would prevent somebody from earning enough money to save his child from an easily treatable disease or sending that child to a better school to be pretty abhorrent myself.

You just want to keep the horror as far from your mind as possible by dribbling out development aid and allowing the darkies to continue to live short, brutish, nasty lives.

You are rapidly becoming the poster child of the math geek who has zero clue about the world beyond your numbers.

You've found a likely lucrative use of the talent with numbers if you make good on your threats to join the ranks of the geeks who run calculators for bankers. Good for you.

You'll still be a sad excuse for a human being and a waste of the investment made by society to get you to the point you went very, very wrong.

We can get a good start with the Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros top brass.

                          • You're already on the wrong track. Lehman had the misfortune of being the sacrificial lamb.

Start on the other side. AIG's game was the faultiest one...

All other problems stem from their writing cheques their ass couldn't cash.

The sad part is that not only do I know more about quantitative subjects than you do, I also express myself more clearly, and in general can show you to be the bloviating fool that you are across half a continent.
