The worst is that there has been hardly any backlash to that statement. I've seen a few editorials, in the more conservative newspapers, about it, but that's about it. I don't know what's more disturbing, her comments, or the lack of outrage about it.

Honestly, when I first heard about it I thought it was statuatory rape too. Something someone should be punished for, but a different level than 'she said no' rape.

Once I had read a bit, I realized I was wrong, that it was nonconsentual. Then I made sure to tell the coouple of people that I was wrong.

My only objection was that he was never tried for it and found guilty. He bailed after a bad plea agreement. While his guilt seem quite obvious from the evidence mentioned, he was never actually convicted.

Holy crap! I can't believe the tree loving Hollywoodies are so upset about a child molester being caught. I FIRST had some sympathy for Polanski. I though, well, it was a case of someone making a huge mistake, perhaps drunk, perhaps having inclination for thse things and the victim might have tried to seduce him and want it as well and it resulted into some kissing and perhaps touching wiht hands but that's it.

Now, as wrong as that alone is, I had no idea that he was a rapist in sense of this above not being true at all. In fact, when do little children seduce grown people? THis is from the RAPIST MOUTH. THey always say this. They might even think it. And somehow that was the reason, a famous neutralization technique made by all rapists and criminals, to justify their own action and to deny that there was a victim in the first place. It is always the fault of the victim. They wanted it, they deserved it, they made me do it and so forth.

I don't get it, people feel all this sympahty for this douche. It's like ohh but he made this film, it's a long time ago, he is an artist! Let him goooooo... so what? Hitler painted as well and was a sensitive vegetarian, made roads and wanted every citizen to have a car, employed people and fought the poverty of his people. What the ****, I mean there are no excuses when you do these sex crimes! I understand that you do a crime of very small stakes, say you slander someone, get into a small fight, steal a candy bar and then 30 years passes, now let's forget about the old things, they don't matter anymore. But rape is a rape, and if we try to justify his raping of a small child for him, we are sick ourselves. No mercy this time. Thumbs down.

It is as if the US is some elephant that never forgets and wants to follow these people, these artists, to the end of the world just because they want to mark W in their column, no matter how much it costs or the pain it causes to people. But if we take away the suspect, and look at the case, the US sought this man for a long time and were actively pursuing him to the end of the world ot get the child raper into justice. That's right, and for one applaud the never give up-attitude of US to do this thing.

Neither do I generally. If convicted he should be put away for some serious time. But I can see this turning into a celebrity trial and total media circus, dragging up what his victim has tried to put behind her and possibly giving him some sort of martyr status amongst those currently falling over themselves to apologise for him (maybe enough to get an Oscar nomination for lifetime contribution to the film industry and then there will be the rights to the Hollywood version of his life story).
