  • Am I the only one who thinks MASH is powerfully unfunny?

I hear it mentioned as one of the greatest shows of all time. I think it's terrible.

I used to like MASH but it wasn't ever a laugh a minute show.

I never thought it was funny, but I thought maybe it was because I was too young to 'get it' but now that I'm older..nope I still don't think it's funny.

        Oh ****.

Someone call Tech Support; RoboCon is broken. It forgot to mention how 9-11 changed everything.

Maybe he thinks the awfulness of MASH somehow contributed to 9/11 changing everything?

it was great back when Frank Burns and Col Flagg were on, kinda lost some appeal in later years

Did you ever see that one where Klinger dressed up like a girl and Radar was all awkward and Frank was like "I'm going to turn you in for insubordination!" after Hawkeye and Trapper/BJ played a practical joke on him? That was classic...

I'm not sure. I know that there was a scene in the OR where Hawkeye told jokes to lighten the mood, though.

And it wasn't supposed to be funny all the time, it's been a long time since I've seen an episode but as far as I remember there was drama there too.

It's a thing called realism. Some days are funny and some days aren't funny at all.

                              Obviously

and a big theme for the whole show was a lament about the US involvement in Vietnam.

Vietnam itself was too much of a politicized sore spot but they could make all the political commentary they wanted in the guise of a comedy about the Korean war. So it wasn't a laugh a minute type thiing but given the American mood about war at the time, I suspect it resonated with people.
