  • IOC congress a lose-lose situation for Obama?

So, in Copenhagen during the first couple days of October, the IOC will consider the four bids for the 2016 Olympics and declare the winner. Spain is sending a king, Japan and Brazil their presidents.

Chicago will absolutely have prominent representatives - confirmed so far are the First Lady and Oprah Winfrey. How 'bout the President though, what since it's Chicago and all? Oh, right, he's working on the health care thingy ... um, we'll get back to that.

According to a White House source, he sent a crew to Copenhagen to examine what should be prepared in terms of security if he does show up:

My best guess is that Obama is releasing this info solely to figure out beforehand if he'll get slaughtered by friends and enemies alike if he does take time out from some tremendously important negotiations at home in order to advertise Chicago abroad.

Then again, what if he doesn't show up and Chicago loses by two votes or something? That's going to take some explaining too ...

I'd be happy to see another president of the US visiting us, but looking at it from Obama's perspective, this does seem like a lose-lose situation - or what?

Btw I see you feel it's only necessary to stop by when something is going on that's important to you Hans 0 nationalists, but can't be arsed to drop by otherwise? Screw you, you dirty furriner.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Don't you live in Chicago? You should be thankful I'm pointing out to the masses the city is famous for anything else than a horrible airport. Now, back to the nationalism, I mean, political discussion. And then I'll arse myself to comment on the next thread you start. That's a promise.

If the President really cares about Chicago, he'll do whatever he can to make sure the Olympics don't choose it as a host city.

I think he needs to go. Not so much for IOC reasons but rather to take a break from the enternal nastiness of Washington D.C. and Fox News. A European vacation will do him good.

Yes, that run on random lightning strikes. And the catacomb-like stations really add to the death theme they're going for.

I don't think it is worth his time. Unless there is some other important summit or negotiations or something to do while he is over there.

Not worth his time - compared to appearing on Letterman?
