  • 10% of America's tap water is dangerous to drink.

When I read stuff like this it makes me think we really are nothing more then upper Volta with rockets. 10% of the tap water in America exceeds EPA health limits for pollutants like heavy metals and the problem has been getting worse over the last eight years not better. The New York Times has done an exhaustive survey of America's water supply and found just how bad the problem really is including state officials and EPA officials who know about polluters and the human health risks they cause but fail to act. The story is far to long to reprint but it's well worth the effort.

Our water is in great shape. It's mostly the south and the rust belt which have the water which is unsafe to drink. Strong environmental standards for the win.

Oh, and what Drake calls "desert" (this is about 0.5 miles from my house).

California has cut it's use way back . It's Arizona which has vastly ramped up use but even so we deliver much more water to Mexico then we are legally required. It's the Mexicans who pump every last drop. We get most of our water from the Sierras and have for around 30 years.

A desert is a landscape or region that receives almost no precipitation. Deserts are defined as areas with an average annual precipitation of less than 250 millimetres (10 in) per year

              San Diego County Water Authority

Average annual rainfall is approximately 9.9 inches per year on the coast

Meh, the foot hills are just 10 miles east and get much more then in the downtown area plus in the mountains they get 40-50 per year so all the streams are year round. It's classified as Mediterranean scrub woodland not desert.

I'm telling you. Mexico is a drain. Even worse, they have to deal with illegals from their south. How ****ed up is that, when Mexico has illegal problems?

Newsflash: Lack of rain causes pollution.

                        From Oerdin's NYT link:

Almost four decades after Congress passed the Clean Water Act, the rate of water pollution violations is rising steadily.

This does NOT mean the problem is getting worse.

show a link that America's tap water is, on average, getting more polluted plz ktxhbye.

How do you separate the 10% that's dangerous to drink from the 90% that's safe to drink? Filters?

I have thought for years that the environmental problems that we should be spending money were water related and not 'gobal warming' related.
