    • The true value of the moon is in making an interstellar spaceship out of it.

      • Why wouldn't we be concerned with oxygen consumption on Earth on a similar basis, snoop?

          I was going to ask...

Say we wanted to create Death Stars 1/1000th the mass of the moon. How many Death Stars would we be able to build by completely pillaging the moon?

          • We could probably find asteroids which would serve that purpose better.

But if we wanted to have 100 billion people live inside of some space rock while we travel to a distant system, the moon might be able to serve?

Wait till we find the trailer park to put that up in!

Well, we are concerned, others don't give a ****, the rest believe in God.

The beautiful thing about Earth is that it can be renewed, so unless we can produce renewable energy/oxygen/water on the Moon, it's kind of a failed mission to start anything there at all. Of course, my question is based on the assumption that we will suck the Moon dry, instead of using renewable sources.

                • I think we'd be drinking, breathing, and evacuating waste in a closed system, snoop.

                  • Probably the only useful thing on the moon is any water that can be easily had. In a pinch, common regolith would do as a spaceship radiation shield, if water isn't readily available to provide the shield (in which case, you're probably hosed anyway).
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

That being said, can you imagine if the Moon were populated by just 10 million people. How much Oxygen would we need to keep them alive, including production of water and other uses. I can only imagine we would suck it dry on a major scale. We have to look at the long term effects here, because I assume we plan to use the Moon for a very long time.
What the **** does people breathing oxygen have to do with reducing the Moon's mass?
