The Senate Finance Committee will drop a controversial provision on consultations for end-of-life care from its proposed healthcare bill, its top Republican member said Thursday.

The committee, which has worked on putting together a bipartisan healthcare reform bill, will drop the controversial provision after it was derided by conservatives as "death panels" to encourage euthanasia.

"On the Finance Committee, we are working very hard to avoid unintended consequences by methodically working through the complexities of all of these issues and policy options," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a statement. "We dropped end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly."

Errr... I could be wrong, but I don't really get the impression that Drake was insinuating a belief that Democrats were pushing for death panels; rather he was just stating that the Democrats had already caved and removed the section that had inspired the Death panel nonsense.

Being that he was responding to you saying that the Republicans will continue to blather on nonsense causing the Democrats to cave in, I don't really see any other way to interpret it.

I mostly lurk because people on this forum are generally smarter/more informed than me. Considering that every time I do post I get called a DL, I wouldn't exactly call that 'being invited to chat'.

My time? I never noticed that really, and I'm too lazy to bother changing it.

No, not an Argo's fan. I used to be a big Riders fan, but the quality of play this year is killing my enjoyment. Games like the ones today just bore me. The Riders score 23 unanswered points in the first half, and then score nothing in the third quarter while Hamilton ties the game. Even though we did win, thats not entertaining football. I found the 2000 season more exciting than this. Sure, we didn't win many games, but hell, there were some epic offensive battles. It may have helped that I was a lot younger then as well.
