What does the color of one's skin have to do with how well they carry out the duties of being a judge?

because latinos have a different culture, and someone should respresent their interests. Perhaps they view some laws differently than others because of the difference in culture. Yes the law is the law, and she should follow the law always, but some things are open to interpretation.

She's completely unqualified and only got it because she's latina

a) She was a ****ing circuit court judge. That means she was one of the 179 highest judges in the US who were NOT supreme court judge

b) The fact that she's latina probably helped her out. Normally this would piss me off, but as I've stated before, I'm pretty sure that any reasonably qualified person would do "as well" as any other on the SC, so the symbolic value of her being latina is probably worth more than whatever marginal improvement in quality (if any) could be gained by being colour- (and sex-) blind

It should be pointed out that there are not a few people in the Federal appellate court system who are completely unqualified to be there (and one person on the SCOTUS). Some of Bush's appointees were absolutely unqualified, and got in anyway.

Roberts and Alito both seem qualified. Harriet Meirs was entirely unqualified, but thankfully she didn't make it.

I don't know anything about lower courts.
