Hmm. I don't think Portman is a terrible actress at all. The awefulness of SW is not on her, as far as I'm concerned. That was criminal misuse of a decent actress by Lucas.
V for Vendetta... maybe I just adjusted my expectations of it b/c I'd never heard of it before I caught it on HBO on a lazy Sunday, but it didn't strike me as awful. Not good, mind you. I'm happy I didn't pay to see it in a theatre. I don't really remember her acting in it, which could be either good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

I'm getting to think Natalie Portman's overrated. She's at her best when leading in offbeat movies like Leon (The Professional) or Garden State. But there have been some movies where she's been boring, and I'm not sure whether that's because the movie itself didn't give her good material to work with, or if it's a problem on her part. The Star Wars movies and Closer were two that I watched and didn't think much of her.
Shatner's been excellent in Boston Legal and he's iconic for ST so I guess I'd vote for him.
Garden State was a terrible movie. The Professional had her starring as a cutesy 13 year-old girl. The Star Wars Trilogy was terrible. V for Vendetta was terrible. I've never seen Cold Mountain or Closer. The rest of her roles have basically been cameos.

Followed by a not so cutesy 14 year old (?) in Heat.
Shatner.

More proof that her ****tiness overpowers good actors who have the misfortune to star beside her.
Zack Braff: usually hilarious, terrible in Garden State
Clive Owen and Jude Law: solid, enjoyable performers, terrible in Closer
Haydn Christensen: okay, she gets a pass on this one
