    Let's discuss Bruno

    I've seen it today (yesterday).

    It was much weaker than Borat. It looks as baron Cohen's plans mostly didn't work out. For example all this straight male hunting trip. It was only embarassing, not at all funny... the red-necks were only embarassed and actually behave very calmly... they didn't do anything you could laugh about... and it's not the only part like that.

    There were nice moments, but the film seems to be made in a hurry, without many ideas... I knew I shouldn't expect much, but I was disappointed anyways.

      Yeah, that was more or less the type of reviews I heard.

      Borat was uncomfortable and funny, and it also showed some Americans behaving hospitably to (what they thought was) a foreigner.

      Bruno, according to most reviews, is just a load of penis jokes aimed at the very religious and the very rural. Apparently it even makes Sacha Baron Cohen look bad compared to the people he's trying to lambast.

        Well, it's a bit more than penis jokes. It does mock homophobia somewhat (the fight at the end is absolutely the most hilarious thing I've ever seen Sacha Baron Cohen do).

          Every review I heard was that it was pretty lame, basically trying to show how massively homophobic Americans are, and most Americans failing to react.
          Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

            He was good as long as he kept to his Ali G shows, where borat and bruno made an appearance now and then. Eps back then were genuinely funny. Turning them all into a movie was not a great idea, but I'm sure it earned him a lot of $$$...

              I found Bruno amusing and got plenty of amusement. But, it wasn't profound, nor was it breaking new ground. It was outrageous, rude and had some very good set pieces such as the cage fight, OJ and Bruno at the talk show and stuff.

              I later watched Borat and it was better at illiciting un-PC responses from the people involved, but I didn't find it as funny...

                  I find candid camera-like shows to satisfy the lowest common denominator of entertainment. Borat and Bruno are really no different from them imo.

                    I wouldn't watch Bruno with my parents. Also I don't think the Al-Aqsa skit was something you'd see on an average candid camera show...
