  • Don't Give Friends Advice

That's what the interwebs are for!

Seriously, friends don't ask for advice, they ask for confirmation that what they already think is right.

I have this one friend who has been over weight for a long time. They were fired from their job about a year ago, and worked for about 6 months on a contract and was promptly escorted from the property once that contract was up because she did some stupid stuff. Anyway, that 6 month company covered lap band surgery on their insurance, so she really wanted to get a job that was beneath her just to get the surgery. So, when she didn't get the job she threw a fit so they walked her out.

Fast forward 2 months later. She still doesn't have a job, eats junk food and at fast food restaurants for her 5 squares a day and complains about being fat and unemployed. She now believes that if she was skinny she would be able to get a job. So, she scheduled for the lap band and has somehow managed to get it financed even though she has no job and has bill collectors banging down her door...

One of her close friends has stopped talking to her because of this. I thought, that's rude. Until I learned that she plans on declaring bankruptcy following the surgery. OMFG. I wonder why health care is having issues; they finance dead beats!

So, I just sit there and nod and smile and drink my beer. Relishing in the fact that I'm fat, employed, and loving it. I believe if she spent more time looking for a job than figuring out how to cheat the system she'd probably have a job right now.

Tell her to eat properly and do some f**king exercise. Tough love and all that. There's no easy route.

A few years back I had a buddy from high school get on AIM and start asking me questions in preparation for taking the GRE. At one point I explained the distributive property to him, he disagreed with the distributive property, and I uninstalled GAIM.

This is exactly correct for casual friends. Best friends are usually asking for real advice.

              And yes, get better friends.

Problem is she's a friend from church. Blowing them off well be hard... that sounded bad, but take out any innuendos you may have subconsciously inserted.

My dad won't take my stock advice. Up 75% on the year. Thanks in part to BofA, TTM, and JAZZ. Though he'd have a heart attack with the volatility I like to buy. For example, I bought JAZZ at 4.00, the next day it was down to 3.20, a week later 5.ish, a week later 3.ish... Opened at 4.40 today, closed at 6.30 and up to 6.65 and post-market. I might have gotten some grays had I not taken a vacation in there.

Either Japher doesn't consider us friends or he's a hypocrite. That title is clearly a form of advice.

He wasn't giving advice, he was issuing a decree.

Of course you should give friends advice. That way, when they ignore it and f**k up big time, you have "I told you so" rights

Why is Japher going to church?
