Here I'd say the most played games are rummy (different forms), simple forms of whist, snap, fish and bull****.

Bridge, whist & poker are played a lot, but mainly older people. Crib and Euchre are more 'hardcore crazy ol' men down the pub' games.

Cribbage and spades are the big ones around here if you don't feel like betting money in poker or drinking in bull****. So, maybe we are part of Canada after all.

As a kid I played War, Go Fish, Bloody Knuckles, Crazy Eights. Some Poker (5 card draw) and Blackjack at camp, though since gambling is illegal, it wasn't for money. I haven't been much of a card player as an adult.

My parents played bridge. Euchre was more popular among my peers. Hearts & Spades, too, though I didn't play.

I remember playing some cribbage with my parents, and Gin Rummy with a babysitter.

In college some of my friends were into Magic: The Gathering. I never got into that.

I've just read the rules of @sshole and found out that it is similar to a Russian card game, except the Russian game involves more silly rules. For example, it's the @*******'s job to flip the cards over and move them to the discard pile, it's the worker's (second to last player) to shuffle the deck and deal the cards, the king is authorized to issue mandates which must be obeyed and can order the executioner (second or third player) to physically punish other players for no reason, etc. Failing to observe any rules or mandates means you immediately become the @sshole.

People sometimes add rules like that to @sshole.

As a kid I played War and Go Fish. As a lifeguard (teenager), we played Hearts and Spades.

The only card games for children I know is War and some kind of Rumy.

As teenager, the first real card game I learned was the belgian version of whist that seems to be known as colour whist.

A very popular one - to play for fun, I mean - among friends is the one we call Rikiki and that seems to be known as Oh Hell!. The advantage of this one is the rules are easy, it can be played by virtually any number of players, has the right balance of skill vs luck allowing everybody to invoke skill when they win and blame bad luck when they loose.

Oh, I just remembered a popular card game among teens nowadays (but not using a standard deck): Apples to Apples.

                                Much fun actually.
