With the coming of the FIAT-Chrysler alliance FIAT has announced that it wants to bring it's "sporting luxury" brand Alfa Romeo back to the US. The problem is the last Alfas sold here were in the late 80's and they were dismal crap which had a reputation for spontaneously falling apart the moment they were driven off the dealer's lot (in fact that's the reputation all European cars other then the Germans had but the Italians were worse then most). I hope this is no longer true.
Any way how does the Alfa 159 stack up to the BMW 3 series or to the Audi A4? Is the Alfa a real contender or is it just a pretender? Is it based on some cheap FIAT or Lancia or is it actually a real Alfa which can go toe to toe with the Teutons? And just out of curiosity would you folks consider it a competitor with the Lexus IS and the Cadillac CTS?
