    Frosty's attitude is common among the contractors in Washington. I believed until recently that I also swore only very rarely. In the Army, I took right to swearing, but that was over 20 years ago. However, a friend noted in passing that my current swearing bothered some folks. As I have been interacting with other people recently, I bring up the subject of "rough language" and several of them verified that impression -- that I swear once or twice "at least" every day, and that is unusual in our circles. As I keep an ear on it now, I am catching myself, in time in most cases, about to swear.

    Swearing really doesn't reflect education or even attitude, but it does sound crude to a lot of people. Most of them will be too polite to bring up their reservations, but their opinion of you is going in the toilet. Especially if you swear a lot more than they do.
