You can't put a human being "in" the LHC. The beam pipes are only a few centimeters across.

At least astronomers take pretty pictures. We don't even have that much to recommend us.
Still less useless than what I did, which starts and stops with recycling stability analysis techniques on mantle convection. Why there's mass is at least a less boring question than why tectonic plates are the size they are."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

KH don't you see? Those 10k people who understand this and want to figure it out deserve the money because they can convince lots of the other (~6x10^9) suckers to pay for it.
The only person who dosen't deserve money is someone too incompetent to find suckers.Last edited by Heraclitus; July 5, 2009, 02:22.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

Nobody said anything about not deserving. I'm simply informing people of what they're getting for their money. Which is nothing.

What else is new. The LHC just like a million other things we pay taxes for are pretty useless. Much like those obscure theatre performances subsidized by the state. They serve no purpose other than satisfying a few oddballs' fetish. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be funded."An archaeologist is the best husband a women can have; the older she gets, the more interested he is in her." - Agatha Christie

well acording to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider#Cost only 4 bil is spent. and considering all the money we throw away on sports, music and other crap it seems pretty cheap.

don't know enough about the research to say what it will lead to, but I'll guess anyways. Maybe a couple of centuries from now it may lead to a new energy source. They may need one after all the oil is depleted from the Earth. Although I have a feeling the earth will be pretty uninhabitable by then. From what some global warming fearmongers are saying, runaway greenhouse effect will kill us all. kidding of course, but I do think this planet may be beyond repair.
I just hope they don't destroy the planet. Not that I'd know if they did, but I kind of like living- usually.
