Those convicted of capital offenses will instead face life in prison without the possibility of release or parole. ...

Me too. I think most people with a thought in their mind have mixed feelings about it.

The crime committed by the last man to be executed in New Mexico was pretty horrific.

Terry Clark was convicted of kidnapping and raping a six-year-old girl from Roswell in 1984. Pending appeals in that case, he was released on bond. While out on bond, Clark drove to Artesia on July 17, 1986 and kidnapped Dena Lynn Gore. He then raped her and finally killed her by shooting her in the back of her head three times. A few days later, Clark was taken into custody and, while in jail, he confessed to a minister.

However it's very expensive to have the death penalty in place, as well as raising moral and ethical questions.

now I can kill that person in New Mexico who I wanted to kill all these years!!!

Seriously this has no impact on most people. People commit crimes not because they feel the punishment is acceptable to their tastes, but because they think they can get away with it. Or in some cases, they are just too blinded by rage to know what they are doing.

When ever the topic comes up people ask " well what if it was you? " the victim.

I can't say because I have never been a victim.

I do know that it is harder to forgive than to execute someone.

I guess my problem is the execution of the mentally challenged and children.

                  Texas
Texas death penalty cases cost more than non-capital cases

That is about three times the cost of imprisoning someone in a single cell at the highest security level for 40 years.

With California’s current death row population of 670, that accounts for $63.3 million annually.”

There is one less expensive option. Ship them to a remote island and have some tv crew film them for a reality series.

This should make a good deterrent for prison.

New Mexico never utilized their options anyway. Slackers!

As an aside, does anyone think it's a good idea to release a convicted child rapist and killer on bond while he appeals??
