...I post all those responses--and your only counter is to an aside I made--and the effect of that counter is to undermine your own position? Should I take that as a concession?

You keep talking about greedy old bastards hoging the planet. But I ask why should future generations be more entitled to it?
You are forgetting a simple point; all humans are greedy bastards. Just because we are kind enough to roll over and decline pursuing life extension this dosen't mean future generations will be as "altruistic".
I don't know about you but if there are immortal bastards hogging the planet I prefer it to be the greedy bastards of our generation than some other.
This vid filled with quite a few is semi-relavant quotes I would particulary direct you to the one at 1:18 :
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

Imagine you are 35 years old and terminally ill, you can take an expensive drug that will save your life or you can take that money and ensure an African child recieves vaccination, good food and an education.
Realisticaly what do you do? What do most people do? Do they make room? Is it realistic to expect them to make room for the young?

If we western devils follow that advice, be prepared for permanent war with the eastern world, who will aim to keep our lifespans short with bomb and bullet. Such a breakthrough, IF it is not cheap and plentiful, will open up a true Pandora's box of troubles which may have the "beneficiaries" wishing we had never chosen to enable this tech.No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai
