lol is this the onion? surely this isn't true, is it?

WASHINGTON — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood.

"Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.

"Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."

Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.

Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."

Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

Besides, there can never be enough Obama threads. Why do you think it's called the OTF (Obama Topic Forum)?

I did link to the video.
I'm trying to figure out if there are currently more "I so much love Obama, I'd have his baby threads" then there used to be, "bush is the anti-christ" threads. I actually think Obama has taken the lead.

I will admit that when I watched this on the news that I could really appreciate his "just a normal joe" style. I mean even he was impressed that he got it in one swipe and wanted to gloat about it. It's hard not to like the man. I have to remind myself that he is anything but "just a normal joe".

You were also about 8 hours late.

An interesting question. As the O flips on more campaign issues and backs away from restoring the Bill of Rights, I suspect the tide will be slowly turning. Personally, my few Obama threads (like this one) are more about trolling for reaction. Maintaining a high level of cynical skepticism -- make that "distrust" -- for all politicians is my standard mode.

However given the dearth of "I love Obama" threads, Rah's got to grab what he can get.

Yeah, while 90 percent are of the "we love" type of threads, I'm sure that percentage will plummet as his term progresses.

Obama's approval rating should be lower than GW's by the end of his term. We're in for some rough years. Not saying The One is to blame for everything, but he will be getting more of the blame by then

But even with that, he's more likeable then BUSH so I'll doubt he'll plummet to BUSH type lows. Or at least I hope not because that would mean it will be a lot longer before I could afford to retire.

It is easier to like him more than Bush, but by 2011 the economy & the the failed foreign policy will be way worse than when Bush left office, so I think it will be at Bush levels. He looks kinda like a puss in foreign affairs so far...but he is a likeable guy

Bush seems like a likable guy actually. Dumb as a rock, but likable.

Bush is someone you'd have a beer with, but not someone you'd want as a boss or president. Kind of like a goofy uncle.
