  • Obama seizing control of the media!

ABC News will host an hour-long special on health care reform in the U.S. next Wednesday from the White House East Room -- a move that ABC is defending but critics are calling a surrender to the Obama administration's effort to control the debate.

OK so the title is a bit sensationalist. He didn't actually seize control. ABC spread their legs willingly.

Is it too much to ask for journalists to just try to pretend they are objective? It annoys me that entire networks are pro obama. This is not healthy. Yes I voted for Obama. But I'm already regretting it. This guy has no oversight. The media certainly won't it. I agree with spending to ease the recession of course (why I voted for him). But politicians must be held accountable. You can't just give this guy a blank check. The media needs to investigate this guy.

Its quite fortunate the US has a two term limit. I do wonder can a former president be a VP or part of the administration of another president?

If so might Obama in 7 years time pull a Putin?

Anyway, despite its flaws the Clinton Healthcare plan was destroyed mainly by the attack ads and media spots against it, which allowed its opponents to railroad over it without any discussion. It's good that Obama is smartly getting his message out to the people.

As for equal airtime: Tough cookies, the build up to the Iraq War wasn't given equal airtime for opponents. That's just the way it is. Opponents to Obama's healthcare plan will have more than enough opportunities to voice their opinions. This is just more grand obstructionist whinging.

No person constitutionally ineligible for the office of President shall be eligible for the office of Vice President.

There is nothing illegal about a former President being part of the Cabinet of a new President, on the other hand (as I understand it; if somebody wants to correct me, feel free).

It would be very unlikely, though.

IIRC the only political post any American president has succeeded to is justice on the Supreme Court.

Andrew Jackson stabbed people in knife fights.

                Jackson > Johnson
                John Brown did nothing wrong.

Also didn't Quincy Adams move on to the House after being President?

Some Presidents have had significant careers after leaving office. Prominent examples include William Howard Taft's tenure as Chief Justice of the United States and Herbert Hoover's work on government reorganization after World War II. Grover Cleveland, whose bid for reelection failed in 1888, was elected president again four years later in 1892. Two former presidents served in Congress after leaving the White House; John Quincy Adams was elected to the House of Representatives, serving there for seventeen years, and Andrew Johnson returned to the Senate in 1875. John Tyler served in the provisional Congress of the Confederate States during the Civil War and was elected to the Confederate House of Representatives, but died before it convened. More recently, Jimmy Carter has become a global human rights campaigner, international arbiter and election monitor, and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

That reads as though you copy-pasted it. It would be a good idea to clearly present it as another's work, if that is the case.
