    • Is the phrase "talking down the economy" used in the US?

      • (d) Sheer logic: If money is being spent, the economy does better.
That's how beautiful it is, spend more money and the economy it does, I wonder why the stupid republicans pretend that they don't understand it. Brilliant!

But why spend so little and stop at $787 billion, why not loan $10 000 billion and spend it all as an additional stimulus? And obtain another $2 000 billion from higher taxes and spend it on government projects decided by Congress, too

The more government spends, the healthier the economy becomes

Economic rebound weaker than first thought

The economy grew at a 2.2 percent pace in the third quarter, as the recovery got off to a weaker start than previously thought. However, all signs suggest the economy will end the year on stronger footing.

The Commerce Department's new reading on gross domestic product for the July-to-September quarter was slower than the 2.8 percent growth rate estimated just a month ago. Economists were predicting that figure wouldn't be revised in the government's final estimate on third-quarter GDP.

          • Yeah, I'm not impressed with the job done on the preliminary figures. They had quite a while with 2/3 of the months that make up the 3rd quarter before they had to announce. 3.5->2.8->2.2 is not particularly good.

The good news is that the corrections seem to be due mainly to increased estimates of businesses eating inventories. Dropping inventories now translates directly to increasing inventories later. Businesses in the US cut both inventories and staffing to the bone compared to the drop in final demand.

            • That actually is good news as excess inventories are the enemy of factory output.
