I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Looks to me like Mitsubishi wanted to do a VW New Beetle but missed the MSRP by $20,000 and managed to make it look uncute.

I bet the inside of the Mitsu is actually pretty roomy. But they should have done a front trunk.
To me, it looks like Mitsubishi just threw a bunch of non-matching elements together.

The Mitsubishi looks like a Tata Nano and is 20 times more expensive.
And I admit, the Tesla looks beautiful. It actually looks a lot like an Aston Martin, but the price?! This is in the range of a BMW M3, which is a superior car.
The price for the Tesla isn't so bad in comparison to the M3, once you consider the price that y'all pay for gasoline that would be avoided by going electric. The Tesla costs about 4 cents a mile for electricity, depending on what electricity goes for in your neck of the woods. The BMW M3 gets 14/20 miles per gallon city/highway, so roughly 35 cents per mile for y'all just in fuel costs.

If the Tesla's specs are correct... it is a reasonable car (Sports car for ~60k and new tech? sure).

Accent (what I have) ~10k
- Cheap, reasonably reliable, does the job.
Mini Cooper ~20k
- More expensive, looks good
Porsche 911 ~60k?
- Expensive, sports car
If the Tesla turns out to have good reviews it might get on my list. The prius, for example, currently isn't. And at ~50k the Miev never will. I would consider buying it for ~20k though.

Zopp: I cross-edited you with some calculations. The relative benefits of electric versus gasoline aren't nearly as pronounced in the US, but we do get a $7,500 federal tax credit for electric. This brings the cost of the Tesla to $50,000. Also, the M3 might get a gas guzzler tax in some states.
Edit: As to the proof being in the driving pudding, I agree wholeheartedly.

I guess that still sits in the sports car region though.
I mean, I think once you are paying more than ~50k for a car... your first inclination is to buy what you like and not what is a good value. I mean, if you like two cars about equal and one is ~20k less than the other, you will ge tthe cheaper one. But if you are buying a luxury item you are going to get what you want.
Unlike say at ~10k or even ~20k.
I consider the price points:
10k-20k: Cheap serviceable, not your favorite car but going for cheap
20k-30k: Midrange, nicer but cost is still a primary factor
30k-40k: Nice, but cost is still a factor
50k-90k: Luxury items for the wealthy only
Apparently the 911 is getting almost out of the luxury items range.
